Music Pick: Keith Urban’s Defying Gravity

Okay – since I’m not following new releases from this week – hey, I have a 3 month old – I am stepping back a few weeks to Keith Urban’s latest. Defying Gravity.

Having seen him in concert and all the energy he has live, it’s good to see such an optimistic and happy album come out from him. Another thing you realize in concert is just how amazing he is as a musician. By far one of the best guitarists you’ll ever come across.

This album is a happy summer, “I want to sit on the front porch drinking iced tea and listening to music,” kind of album. His guitar playing is as important as the lyrics on some of the songs. And there’s a bit more pop and rock in this one – I do miss the more authentic country tone to past hits. The song Sweet Thing, his first single from this new album, reminds me of his earlier release Be Here.

Gotta love the blend of electric guitar with banjo. The whole world needs more banjo. Listen in below.

Post your thoughts. I’m going to get one of my friends to like country and will keep reviewing until I do.
